What do I need to do next? You are probably wondering how this will work for my student? What is online school? Will there be help available? We have created this document of frequently asked questions to assist you and your student in the transition to AVA.
What do I need to do next?
Your next step is enrolling your student into our operating system: Genius. Genius will allow you, as a parent, to monitor your student(s) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in real time. You will create your own Genius account for yourself and your student(s)

Do I need a Chromebook? Potential Action Required
Yes, AVA classes will not work on an IPad. If you need a chromebook you can check one out from us. If you have an IPad from the district you will need to exchange it. Chromebooks will be available starting August 10. You will need to make an appointment so that we do not have a long line waiting to check out a chromebook. We are located at Franklin Middle School, 450 N. Crosby, Door 20 (near the tennis courts, south end of building)
To make an appointment please call or email:
What can you expect?
Your student will be working 3-5 hours a day. At the start of every day, they should click on the “To Do List” that will be in the upper left hand corner of the screen. All of the assignments that are due for the next 7 calendar days will be on the list. Yes, your student can work ahead. If a student clicks on the gradebook, every assignment for the entire semester with the date it is due is listed.
When will I hear from someone at AVA?
We have already started contacting students to establish schedules for the upcoming semester. We have started with Seniors, then Juniors, etc. Everyone will be receiving a call the week of August 17th.
If we don’t like online learning can we go back to our home school?
Yes, that is why we are starting a week early so that you and your student can see what online learning looks like. If you wish to go back to your home school, please contact Dr.Patricia Hernandez, Principal of AVA, at 608-743-6110
Do classes/credits transfer back to our home school?
Yes, classes/credits count at any Wisconsin public school.
Will my student be missing any curriculum taught at our home school?
No AVA curriculum is the same as the Janesville School District curriculum.
